Europe's carbon market under speculative pressure
Date: 22 April 2021, Thursday
Time: 2:00PM - 3:00PM UK Time

The EU carbon price reached €44/t recently and there is plenty of discussion around the role of speculative positions driving the latest market development. We have seen some voices calling for restrictions on speculative positions and putting a halt on the run.

With FinTwits interest rising, a new level of non-compliance investment seems around the corner for the EU ETS. With this panel discussion we bring together key market stakeholders from the financial industry, compliance operators to discuss questions on market liquidity needs, different qualities of speculative money in the market, regulation for non-compliance positions and impact for future trading.

We will discuss with the following panellists:
Jan Ahrens, Head of Research at SparkChange
Mike Azlen, Founder and CEO Carbon Cap Management LLP
Ariel Perez, Partner at Hartree Partners
Benedikt von Butler, Managing Director Germany at Enviva
